Community First Fund

Supporting Community Betterment and Crisis Recovery Efforts

United Way of Mid-Maine (UWMM) and our partner agencies are working hard to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic to meet the short-term needs of those impacted, as well as the long-term needs that have yet to be seen.

Organizations that serve populations in need every day are finding themselves under-resourced to serve a growing demand for those services. We recognize this and, with the generous support of Kennebec Savings Bank, have established the Community First Fund. While our current efforts will be focused on COVID-19 relief, this Fund will be available year-round.

The Community First Fund is designed to provide extra funding to local non-profit organizations by funding programs or projects that address a need in the community, or aid in the continuation of an organizations mission. Funds can be requested for programs or projects that fall under one of the following guidelines:

  • Programs or projects that are addressing an emergent or ongoing need in the community. This may include, but is not limited to, combating food insecurity, providing access to essential needs, disaster/crisis recovery.
  • To aid in the continuation of a non-profits mission when the organization has experienced a debilitating circumstance. This may include, but is not limited to, recovery from fire or flood, vehicle repair.

This fund is comprised of donations that have been raised or donated by individuals or businesses that specifically support community betterment efforts. Donors do not designate to a specific organization, letting United Way determine the distribution of these funds.
