Camp Tracy

Alfond Youth Center

Application Summary:

Underwrites scholarships for needy children to attend Camp Tracy summer program. Aligns with “Strengthening Children.” The camp itself has provided education for children in a recreational setting for many years.

Site Visit/Phone Conversation Notes:

Discussion focused less on the camp itself than on the fact that the grant makes it possible for needy children to attend the camp. Failure to fund would not materially affect the camp itself, only the ability of some children to attend. I’m therefore recommending less than the full request in view of UWMM’s projected shortfall.

Program Strengths:

Direct benefit to individual children.

Program Weaknesses:

Not a weakness per se, but as noted above lack of funding could make it impossible for some needy children to benefit., The application is somewhat ambiguous, in that the request is specifically for scholarships, not support of the camp itself.

Focus Area:

George Coleman agrees that this program aligns with Education, as indicated on the application.

This program has requested $5000.

George Coleman’s Recommendation: Maybe Fund for $3500

Recommendations and Comments

Definitely Fund = No question, UWMM should fund this program.
Maybe Fund = I think UWMM should fund this program, but I have outstanding questions.
Maybe Don’t Fund = I don’t think UWMM should fund this program, because I have outstanding concerns.
Don’t Fund = UWMM should not fund this program.

Rachel Grant

Maybe Fund

Maybe fund half? While this is a valuable program, it would still continue with less funding from UWMM.

Leon Duff/Ann Lindeman

Definitely Fund

We would support George’s recommendation depending on what we up with for funds.

Jackie Dalton

Maybe Fund

Should fund, but not necessarily at requested level. agree with George for $3500 level

Rick Dorian

Maybe Fund

Good recommendations. The AYC has a very well established development/fundraising program with a strong donor base, unlike most funding requests. I agree at a reduced level of funding.

Maybe Fund

Good progra. They have significant other resources. Agree with partial funding.

James Wood

Maybe Don’t Fund

I am concerned with the amount of children able to attend camp with the funding requested. Could we use that money better elsewhere to impact more people in our service area?

Robert Dahlgren

Maybe Don’t Fund

This seems an important service. I would want to know how many grants a full fund vs a partial fund would allow? Others have mentioned other funding sources and I’d want to know more about those.
